Ryan Gosling in Talks to Join Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars’ Film
Star Wars is quickly looking to expand its galaxy by adding one of the greatest actors of this generation. A new report has confirmed that Disney is close to nearing a deal with The Fall Guy star Ryan Gosling to star in the next film set in the iconic franchise. Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy is set to helm the upcoming project, which is said to be fast-tracked after only two years of development.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gosling will headline the next Star Wars film to go into production as long as the deal goes through. No ink has been spilled just quite yet, but it sounds like the Blade Runner 2049 star is set to join his biggest franchise yet. THR’s report adds that Gosling’s introduction to Star Wars will be a standalone movie, with no connections to the main episodic films. Details on the film’s plot or Gosling’s character remain under wraps, as well as any other possible casting additions. However, if the untitled film is indeed being fast-tracked, expect more announcements later this year, sooner rather than later.
The latest news puts the Gosling-led pic well ahead of schedule, especially since Daisy Ridley’s solo film still does not have a release date, despite having a director and a working script. It’s unclear what Levy’s new film will be about, but the script was written by The Adam Project‘s Jonathan Tropper. For the past few years, in the wake of The Rise of Skywalker, it seems Lucasfilm has had an especially hard time developing movies and getting them to the finish line. If Gosling’s movie is actually made, it will come soon after Mandalorian & Grogu, which hits theaters in December 2026.
The ‘Star Wars’ Movie Slate Is One Big Mystery
Shawn Levy’s mysterious Star Wars project getting fast-tracked and adding Ryan Gosling to the mix is certainly a development most fans did not see coming. After all, Taika Waititi’s long-gestating project, as well as Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron, remain in the Sarlacc Pit. Levy managing to get his film on track to actually being made is a testament to how strong the script is, and a sign of faith by Disney after Deadpool & Wolverine smashed every R-rated record on its path to box office dominance. Moreover, it seems heavily disconnected from the events of the sequel trilogy, or any other spinoff for that matter. That said, Levy is not the only trending filmmaker getting to play in the Star Wars sandbox.

Yes, time is a flat circle.
A Complete Unknown director James Mangold is preparing to tell the origins of the Jedi order in Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi, set tens of thousands of years before the events of the Skywalker saga. Meanwhile, Simon Kinberg is writing a brand-new mainline trilogy, a risky bet by Kathleen Kennedy to bring Star Wars back into the billions-making business after the Skywalker story ended with Episode 9. Both of those projects seem to be in the works and in a healthy state, while Rian Johnson’s trilogy will likely never come to fruition, despite The Last Jedi being the best film in the sequel saga.
