US institute awards Lazarus Chakwera for promoting education – The Times Group

President Lazarus Chakwera has been awarded for promoting education among young people in Malawi and Africa.

The United States of America’s-based university, Stevens Institute of Technology, recognised Chakwera in a presidential honorary award on Thursday during an event that took place at Hobotech, New Jersey USA.

The award was held on the sidelines of a second annual Africa-US Presidential forum.

Chakwera said he was humbled with the recognition.

“Whether it is this global forum or a regional one like the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building of which I was named champion three years ago. I never pass up an opportunity to open educational doors for the young people of Malawi.

“Over the past two years, the partnership between Malawi and the Nekotech Centre of Excellence has opened over 30 doors for the education of Malawi’s youth. And I am so proud that the fellowship for this year’s program has yet again gone to a Malawian,” Chakwera said.

He further called for collaboration in ensuring that much ground is covered in order to achieve universal education levels in Malawi.

According to Malawi Government’s Facebook Page, president of Stevens Institute of Technology Nariman Farvardin said his institution organised the event in partnership with Nekotech Centre of Excellence to show its commitment to foster technological innovation and education excellence for a brighter future for Africa’s next generation of leaders and innovators.

Apart from Chakwera, some of the awardees of the Presidential Honorary Awards include, former President of the Republic of Malawi Joyce Banda, Julius Maada Bio President of the of Sierra Leone and King Tackie Tsuru 2, President of the Ga State in Ghana.

A Malawian lady, Chipiliro Chisao, also received a graduate ambassador award.

The Africa -US Presidential forum annually brings together African presidents, US government officials, corporate leaders, and dignitaries to discuss critical issues in strategic workforce training.
