Former USWNT Star Kelley O’Hara’s Next Chapter Is Hosting A New Studio Show With Just Women’s Sports

Kelley O’Hara Launches Post-Soccer Career with Just Women’s Sports Studio Show “Sports Are Fun!”

Just Women’s Sports

In 2019, at a time when women’s sports received just 4% of sports media coverage, Haley Rosen had a vision for creating a new type of media platform that was “just for women’s sports.” In 2020, Rosen made that vision a reality by founding Just Women’s Sports (JWS), a digital-first consumer media brand featuring programming and content that centered on women athletes and the women’s sports industry. One of Rosen’s aims was to make it both easy and fun to be a women’s sports fan by creating genuine “hype” through original programming, media, and editorial coverage.

“We have been pushing the concept of ‘hype not guilt’ for women’s sports since the beginning,” said Rosen. “A lot of what we were seeing in women’s sports was you ‘should’ support or you ‘need’ to support. I totally reject that. These athletes are the best in the world, and ultimately sports are entertaining. When we don’t lean into the joy and the excitement, we’re robbing people of having a classic sports experience in women’s sports.”

As one of her first major moves as the CEO & Founder of JWS, Rosen approached U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT) star, Kelley O’Hara, about hosting the platform’s first venture into audio programming: the “Just Women’s Sports Podcast.” O’Hara eagerly accepted the opportunity, buying in early to Rosen’s vision for JWS and excited to try her hand at serving as a podcast host for the first time. Since then, O’Hara and Rosen have worked together extensively on JWS programming, launching a variety of audio digital content including The Players Pod and Fast Friends with Lisa Leslie, as well as the popular digital series Kelley on the Street and 1v1.

Next Up For O’Hara & JWS: Sports Are Fun!

For their next collaboration, O’Hara and Rosen are launching a new weekly studio show from JWS called Sports Are Fun! that will feature O’Hara and a revolving cast of co-hosts and guests. Every week, discussions will focus on the biggest headlines in women’s sport, including “on-court drama” and “off-field shenanigans.”

“Sports are Fun! is going to be like you’re hanging out with us, talking about whatever’s been blowing up in the group chat, and it’s going to be all good vibes,” said O’Hara. “We’re going to make it as easy as possible for people to come across and be a fan of women’s sports.”

Rosen sees Sports Are Fun! as an important step in the evolution of women’s sports, by contributing to a modern, women’s sports media ecosystem that has daily, regular coverage that keeps fans connected and engaged.

“We’ve played a big part in what is women’s sports content and coverage, and we think we’re ready as a company–and the industry is ready–for more people to come in and give even more thoughts and opinions about women’s sports,” said Rosen.

Pushing For More Progress In Women’s Sports

For O’Hara, hosting Sports Are Fun! is her first major move since retiring from professional soccer in 2024. After a legendary career that included winning two World Cups, an Olympic gold medal, and two NWSL Championships—as well as helping secure equal pay for the USWNT—O’Hara is embarking on a second career as a full-time media personality and content creator. One of O’Hara’s goals for working with JWS is to continue pushing for progress in women’s sports.

“I feel a responsibility to stay close to the game; to continue to contribute to moving it forward,” said O’Hara. “We’ve made strides and we’ve made progress, but [women’s sports] is nowhere near where we want it to be.”

Sports Are Fun! is sponsored by TurboTax, marking the brand’s first major sponsorship of a women’s sports show. The show will be filmed in JWS’s New York City-based studio, with the first episode debuting on February 4th on the Just Women’s Sports YouTube page and across all audio platforms.
