John Wood Community College science labs to get upgrades
Quincy, Illinois — The John Wood Community College Board of Trustees met Monday afternoon to approve renovations for physical science labs on the Quincy campus.
The (JWCC) Trustees accepted the low bid of approximately $1,567,000 from Maas Construction as the contractor, which includes renovations to four science labs and restroom upgrades in the college’s Science and Technology Center.
The labs design, which was influenced by input from science faculty, focuses on interactive, flexible, and collaborative spaces to assist in the student’s experience.
The renovation will modernize the space, an important feature for students taking important classes like Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology and Physics. Such classes are crucial healthcare, engineering and other professional degrees.
“This renovation project is an investment in our students’ learning environment and the region’s workforce,” JWCC President Dr. Bryan Renfro said. “The students who use these labs are the nurses, physical therapists, engineers, surveyors, surgical techs, medical assistants, and even doctors who will serve our communities in the future. They deserve the very best facilities to learn the foundational science to be successful as they pursue their careers. This is not just an investment in our buildings and infrastructure, its an investment in the most valuable resource we have, our students.”
The project will begin this summer, with construction scheduled to be finished by Fall 2025.
