India anticipated to lead global smartphone exports in nearly two quarters, says ZETWERK Electronics Head
India is set to become the world’s leading exporter in the smartphone category within the next one or two quarters, surpassing its current position as the second-largest exporter, according to Josh Foulger, President Consumer Electronics, ZETWERK.
He noted that this growth is supported by government policies and market enablement, emphasising that companies must be agile, scale up quickly, and build competencies at a rapid pace to capitalise on this momentum.
The electronics manufacturing services (EMS) presents a tenfold growth opportunity across all verticals in the electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM), alongside component manufacturing. This includes electronic hardware products, telecom, consumer electronics, aviation, aerospace, and defense, among others. Zetwerk is actively exploring these areas, though Foulger noted, “Our primary focus remains on EMS, as there is still substantial room for growth in India and through the India Plus strategy.”

Expanding on India Plus, Foulger highlighted the growing global demand for supply chain diversification. “The ‘India Plus’ strategy is gaining traction, as geographies like the US and Europe seek to diversify their supply chains. Zetwerk already has factories in these regions, making it a natural progression for us. Additionally, nearshore markets such as the Middle East and Africa present further opportunities due to product synergies.”
Currently, Zetwerk operates across multiple segments, including consumer electronics, industrial applications, communications, telecom, computing, displays, and home appliances such as washing machines, air conditioners, and refrigerators. The company has also entered the automotive sector and plans to significantly expand its presence, given the growing integration of electronics in automobiles.
Elaborating on segment expansion, Foulger stated, “We are looking at strategic electronics, particularly as India pursues self-reliance in defense manufacturing.”
