Robert Rodriguez directed the sci-fi movie back in 98 but will be back this time in the role of producer.

Variety first revealed that production company Miramax would be working with Robert as well as rising star Drew Hancock to draft up the script for the film.

In the original movie, a group of students began to suspect that there was a deadly secret lurking within their school.

Suspicions were at an all-time high that the teachers could be keeping something sinister rather close to their chests.

It soon becomes clear that the Faculty have an agenda against their students as they try to infect the students one by one.

The original movie was led by stars Jordana Brewster, Clea DuVall, Salma Hayek, Jon Stewart and even singer Usher played one of the leading characters in the film.

Whilst it performed relatively well upon its original release in 1998 grossing over $63million, it is in subsequent years that it really developed a cult following.

Film critic Aliya Whiteley said of the movie’s impact in retrospective years: “It’s all about examining the tropes of science fiction with a smart, funny angle.

“Half of the fun in this film is in identifying where you first came across a certain character’s name or saw a particular special effect.

“For instance, there’s a brilliant moment with a head on legs that I defy you to watch and not think of a certain John Carpenter film.

Huge blow for action movie legend as new film lands 0% Rotten Tomatoes score as critics brand it ‘laughably bad’

“The Faculty is very definitely a big mess of a movie. But if you love all things sci-fi, it’s a good mess.”

Details on its casting and release date are expected to be released in due course.

At Rotten Tomatoes, the original movie currently holds a mediocre score of 57%.
