Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Haryana’s Surajkund Mela to Shine Globally with Union Minister’s Support

Tourism Minister Dr. Arvind Sharma Invites Participation in the 38th Surajkund International Crafts Mela

Faridabad, January 31,2025: Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, has announced a special action plan to bring Haryana’s rich heritage, culture, and tourism onto the world map. He emphasized enhancing the grandeur of the 38th Surajkund International Crafts Mela and engaging prominent international partners in the event.

The Haryana Minister for Heritage and Tourism, Dr. Arvind Sharma, met Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi on Friday. He invited the Union Minister to inaugurate the 38th Surajkund International Crafts Mela on February 7 in Faridabad.

The two ministers discussed various key aspects of Haryana’s tourism development. Union Minister Shekhawat said that the time has come to bring Haryana’s tourism into the global spotlight. He assured that the Central Government and the Haryana Government will work together on a special strategic plan to showcase Haryana’s rich cultural heritage to the world.

He also highlighted the need to collaborate with major countries for upcoming editions of the Surajkund Mela to foster cultural exchange, handicrafts, and handloom industries. He suggested creating a fixed event calendar for the Mela, allowing international participants, artists, and tourists to plan their visit accordingly. Additionally, he proposed organizing theme-based fairs in Surajkund, similar to those held in Mumbai and Kolkata, to promote the event on a global platform.

Haryana Tourism Minister Dr. Arvind Sharma mentioned that under the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the government is working diligently to promote India’s cultural, artistic, and culinary diversity. He also briefed the Union Minister about the steps taken to enhance the Mela’s grandeur and attraction.

This year’s event will see extensive use of digital platforms, including online ticket booking and QR codes for artists and stalls, ensuring complete transparency and efficient monitoring.
The Mela is expected to host millions of visitors, featuring participation from the theme states Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, along with artists, weavers, and craftsmen from 50 countries. Additionally, 15 Indian states will showcase their traditional and exquisite cuisine.
