World Bank offers support to tackle capital smog

ISLAMABAD:

World Bank Senior Disaster Risk Management Program Specialist Lesley Y Cordero assured full cooperation to CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Friday in addressing the challenges posed by smog.

During a meeting with a World Bank delegation led by Cordero, the CDA chairman proposed the creation of a Carbon Credit Cell within the CDA, seeking technical support from the World Bank to obtain carbon credits for various green initiatives.

Cordero offered assistance in developing strategies for improving Islamabad’s air quality in the short, medium, and long term. The discussions focused on effective measures to reduce air pollution and ensure a healthier environment for the city’s residents.

Randhawa emphasised the importance of a reliable Air Quality Index (AQI) to provide accurate data for public awareness and informed policy decisions.
