New Delhi: General Motors (GM) has issued a recall for more than 449,000 SUVs and pickup trucks due to a potential problem with the electronic brake control module software. The issue may prevent the warning light from illuminating when brake fluid levels are low, potentially leading to reduced braking efficiency and an increased risk of accidents.

The recall affects a range of 2023 and 2024 models, including the Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) flagged the issue, stating that driving without the brake fluid warning light could pose a significant safety risk.

GM is offering a free software update to rectify the issue. Owners of the affected vehicles will receive notification letters starting from October 28, 2024. In the meantime, customers with affected cars can reach GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 for assistance.

This recall comes as GM aims to ensure safety and reliability in its vehicle range, following increased scrutiny of automotive software and safety features.
