Modi presents Northeast as ‘Astalakshmi’ of India

Agartala, Feb 6 (IANS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming the eight northeastern states into ‘Astalakshmi,’ symbolizing prosperity and development.

Speaking virtually from Delhi during a job offer distribution event in Agartala, Shah emphasized the dramatic shift in the region’s image from one plagued by blockades, violence, terrorism, and corruption to a peaceful, investment-friendly zone with modern infrastructure.

He noted that central ministers have visited the region over 700 times in the past decade to oversee developmental initiatives. Shah also praised Tripura’s transformation under BJP rule since 2018, citing improvements in airports, roads, water supply, and electricity.

“Once landlocked, Tripura is now a land-linked state,” he remarked.
