Superman Star Explains What Made the James Gunn Film a ‘Blast’ to Work On
Superman star Rachel Brosnahan recently discussed the upcoming James Gunn film, revealing why the project was such a joy to work on. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel actor will portray the DCU’s iteration of the Daily Planet Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Lois Lane in the movie, which hits theaters on July 11.
Brosnahan told The Hollywood Reporter at the Critics Choice Awards that she was overwhelmed by how many people watched the Superman trailer, which became Warner Bros.’s most viewed ever, underscoring how eager fans are to experience the reboot. “It’s been so overwhelming in a really positive way. I can’t believe how many people watched that trailer,” she said. Brosnahan then talked about what made working on the movie so special. “I’m at the risk of sounding totally corny at this point, but (Superman) was such a joy to work on. You know, James (Gunn) and Peter Safran on the DC side. James has been dreaming of making a Superman movie for so many years, and to be part of somebody else realizing their dream like that brings a totally different energy to the set every day.”

After others have done the same, an X-Men franchise actor is hoping to reprise the same role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Brosnahan continued, “I feel like one of the interesting things about this character is that she’s changed so much from her inception to kind of reflect what it would look like to be a modern, relentless, kind of intense, slightly messy reporter of that time. So I feel like I really relied on the handful of journalists I spoke to to help me build her.”
James Gunn’s Superman will fly into theaters on July 11, 2025.
