Musicians oppose Israel’s choice of song for Eurovision contest over ‘conflict of int
A group of Israeli musicians have come out against the song chosen to represent Israel in the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, claiming a conflict of interest of its writer. Keren Peles, who co-wrote last year’s entry – Hurricane, wrote the song selected by Kan Broadcasting Coorporation to be performed by Yuval Rafael.
The letter to Kan and Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi, obtained by Ynet, The musicians and songwriters claimed said Peles participated in the panel of judges on “The Next Star,” the production that selected Rafael as Israel’s representative.
The musicians demand that the committee disclose its protocols, convene a new committee to select a song, or hold a transparent process that allows the public to participate in choosing it. Kan said that the song had been selected out of 54 candidates by a professional committee.
“We have not yet received the letter, but we strongly reject the claims,” Kan said in a statement. “The committee for selecting the song that will represent Israel at Eurovision is composed largely of senior music editors from the corporation, senior television and production personnel from Kan, and a public representative, who are not affiliated with any private production company. The committee is closely supervised by the corporation’s deputy legal advisor throughout all of its decisions and meetings.

The selection of Israel’s chosen song is done in a secret ballot. “This year, the winning song was chosen unanimously by all companies and members of the committee and the matter speaks for itself about the significance of the judging panel’s appearance on the committee,” Kan said. “Over the years, there have been quite a few creators and performers who have represented Israel more than once, even in consecutive years. Israel’s successes in the competition in recent years (winning first, third and fifth place) prove above all the professionalism of the team. The voter and the quality of his choice.”
