Ramaphosa joins world leaders in New York for UN General Assembly

Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in New York on Saturday to lead the South African delegation at the 79th UN General Assembly.

World leaders are convening at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to tackle the pressing challenges and shortcomings in global governance that have been highlighted by recent international crises.

Ramaphosa will address the Assembly on Tuesday, focusing on international peace, the Sustainable Development Goals, climate change, and pandemic preparedness.

The Presidency said that this year the African group is leading the General Assembly, with former Cameroonian Prime Minister Philemon Yang serving as President of the 79th Session.

“The theme identified by the President of UNGA79 is, ‘Unity in diversity, for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for everyone everywhere’.”

Ramaphosa will also participate in the High-Level Summit of the Future and engage business leaders to attract investment to South Africa.
