USAID increases funding by over $6mn for Uzbekistan’s education programs

On September 23, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced an increase of $6.1mn to its existing Development Objective Grant Agreement (DOAG) with the Ministry of Preschool and School Education in Uzbekistan. This adjustment raises the total funding committed to the DOAG to over $47mn.

The additional funding reflects USAID’s ongoing support for the Ministry’s comprehensive educational program, which aligns with Uzbekistan’s 2030 Development Strategy. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of education across preschool and school levels.

The new resources will strengthen current programs designed to improve foundational skills in primary education through inclusive practices. Furthermore, the funding will provide essential entrepreneurship and economic skills to students in Grades 8-11, equipping them for future employment opportunities and economic participation.

Since the initiation of the DOAG agreement in 2019, USAID has directed its investments towards enhancing early-grade reading and mathematics, advancing English language proficiency, developing information and communications technology skills, and fostering employability skills within Uzbekistan’s education sector.
