FRAMINGHAM — Framingham Public Schools said it will expand its Dual Language Bilingual Education Program to two middle schools.

In an announcement, the school district said the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has approved applications from Framingham to offer the programs at the Fuller Middle School and Cameron Middle School earlier than expected.

The programs will start in time of the 2025-26 school year. Fuller Middle School will focus on instruction in Spanish and English, while Cameron Middle School will emphasize Portuguese and English.

Framingham school officials say these initiatives aim to promote bilingualism, biliteracy, sociocultural competency and academic excellences. They say the Dual Language Bilingual Education Program prepares students for success in a globalized world, allowing them to develop essential linguistic and social skills.

Through immersive learning experiences and a curriculum centered on real-world applications, students will acquire skills in two languages and gain a deeper understanding of diverse cultures in both Framingham and beyond.

Highlights of the program include bilingual and biliteracy instruction, cultural enrichment and a focus on high academic achievement, school officials say.

The Dual Language Bilingual Education Program is already offered at Barbieri Elementary School, Brophy Elementary School, Potter Road Elementary School, Harmony Grove Elementary School, Walsh Middle School and Framingham High School. Programs also focus on either Spanish and English or Portuguese and English.
