Who is Apoorva Mukhija, aka The Rebel Kid, and why is she being questioned by Mumbai police over India’s Got Latent controversy?- The Week

In the latest development surrounding the controversy over the lewd comments Ranveer Allahbadia made in the recent episode of Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent, guest judge Apoorva Mukhija, who was also a part of the panel in the same episode, is being questioned by the Mumbai police.

Mukhija, widely known as The Rebel Kid, was summoned by the authorities to the Khar police station. According to News18, the influencer arrived at the station on Tuesday morning and is currently being scrutinised.

Although the main focus has been on Allahbadia for making a lewd comment on ‘parental sex’, the 23-year-old also made a few unsettling remarks about the female anatomy.

Who is Apoorva Mukhija?

Due to her large following and national reach, Mukhija has collaborated with major brands like Samsung, Bvlgari, Coca-Cola, Taco Bell, Nivea, Flipkart, Disney, KitKat, Maybelline, FlySwiss, Swiggy, McDonald’s, Colgate, Garnier, Oppo, Dominos, Cadbury, and even an advertisement with Ananya Pandey for Amazon Prime Video.

Business magazine Forbes named her among India’s Top 100 Digital Stars of 2024.

Mukhija has yet to respond to the controversy surrounding a national storm caused by her and the other judges in the latest episode of India’s Got Latent. Her co-judge Allahbadia took to social media to apologise for asking a contestant an insensitive question: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?”

Allahbadia asked for forgiveness for the obscene joke, clarifying that he had no intention to use his public platform to make lewd comments. “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate; it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I’m just here to say sorry… I personally had a lapse in judgment. It wasn’t cool on my part,” he said.
