2 Potential Directors Revealed for Mike Flanagan’s Clayface Movie
An update has been revealed for Clayface, the DC Studios film that will put the shapeshifting supervillain front and center as the star of his own story. The movie will be written by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Hush), who has been heavily praised for his horror work, and now two potential directors have been named.
Per Deadline, the filmmakers currently in consideration to direct Clayface include Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare) and James Watkins (Speak No Evil). Reportedly, the casting process is underway as well, though no actors have yet been named. The plan is to first get a director on board so the filmmaker can be involved with locking down specific cast members for desired roles. While Flanagan has been praised for his work as a director, he is only handling writing duties on Clayface with no intention of taking the helm himself, as he remains committed to his upcoming Exorcist reboot.

Clayface Gets His Own Movie
Plot details have not been divulged about the Clayface film. Deadline reports that the film is rumored to be a “horror-thriller-tragedy” movie, and that the titular character won’t be given his typical portrayal as a Batman villain. It seems likely that the story will take heavy inspiration from Clayface’s DC origins, though there have been different backstories for the character depicted in different mediums. Most often, Clayface is presented as a supervillain with the ability to mold his body into the likeness of other people or objects.
Many iterations of Clayface have been featured in DC stories over the years. Brian McManamon played a live-action version in Gotham, while Lorraine Burroughs played another in Pennyworth. In animation, he has been voiced by Ron Perlman with recent portrayals including Harley Quinn and Creature Commandos, both of which were voiced by Alan Tudyk.
Clayface will be released on Sept. 11, 2026.
