Natasha Lyonne to Lead Film Based on Joe Hill’s ‘Basketful of Heads’ Comic
Natasha Lyonne has been tapped to star in and produce Basketful of Heads, an adaptation of the Joe Hill graphic novel series of the same name, Deadline reports. The film will be written and directed by Ana Lily Amirpour, the filmmaker behind the 2014 indie neo-vampire film A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.
Basketful of Heads is a darkly comedic horror tale centering on June Branch, who must save her boyfriend from kidnappers with a magic axe that gives human heads the power to continue living after decapitation. It was written by Hill with art by Leomacs and Reiko Murakami and first published by the DC Comics imprint Hill House Comics in 2019.
Bluestone Entertainment will produce the film alongside Lyonne’s Animal Pictures and Akiva Goldsman and Greg Lessans’s Weed Road. In a statement, Lyonne said she is “thrilled to work with the ingenious auteur Ana Lily Amirpour on such beloved IP and so grateful that Akiva and Bluestone brought it to us at Animal to develop. This one’s gonna be a knockout!” Amirpour also shared her excitement for the project, stating:
“I’m very excited to team up with the wickedly funny and brilliant Natasha Lyonne to adapt this comic into a film. We’re going to bring to life a new type of antihero who gets pulled into a bizarre adventure that unleashes something inside her and turns her life inside out. It’s gonna be darkly funny, surreal and bloody as hell.”
As the project is still in early development, no filming or release dates have been announced at this time.
Natasha Lyonne’s Acclaim as an Actress Continues To Rise
Natasha Lyonne recently won critical-acclaim for her role in His Three Daughters, also produced by Animal Pictures, demonstrating the actress’s serious talent and range in handling not only the comedic aspects of the script, but the dramatic as well. Lyonne also wrapped filming on season two of her popular Peacock series Poker Face, which will hopefully release sometime this year. She’ll next be seen on the big screen in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
