The Lindenwood men’s hockey team (7-21-2) picked up a 5-2 win on senior day against Alaska Fairbanks (10-12-6) on Saturday from Centene Community Ice Center.

GAME OVERVIEW

Lindenwood got on the board first as Patrick Schmiedlin stayed hot, finding the back of the net again, assisted by Kristoff Papp and Tyler Loughman, putting Lindenwood up 1-0 at the 6:45 mark. The Nanooks tied the game with 45 seconds to go in the opening frame, making the score 1-1 after 20.

The Lions regained the lead just before the midway point of the second period as Lindenwood made a nice play through the neutral zone and Ty Hipkin wristed one past the Fairbanks netminder from passes from Papp and Noah Houle on the man advantage, giving Lindenwood a 2-1 lead. The Black and Gold took a two-goal lead at the 14:22 mark when Jack Anderson made a nice feed that found the stick of Papp, who did the rest and put Lindenwood up 3-1. The Nanooks responded right away and cut the deficit to 3-2 just 20 seconds later. That would be the score after two periods.

The powerplay came through once again for Lindenwood in the third when Schmiedlin lit the lap again, assisted by Anderson, putting Lindenwood up 4-2. The Lions maintained a two-goal advantage throughout the period, but the Nanooks made a late push. Owen Bartoszkiewicz stood tall and kept Lindenwood in front. Mitch Allard sealed the deal with an empty-net goal assisted by David Gagnon with under a minute to go, securing a 5-2 win.
