Dwayne Johnson Shares First Poster for Holiday Action Movie Red One

Dwayne Johnson is hyping up Red One. The actor recently took to social media to share a new poster for the upcoming Christmas action movie.

Shared via his X account, the image features Johnson as E.L.F Commander Callum Drift, Chris Evans as hacker and bounty hunter Jack O’Malley, Lucy Liu as Zoe, J. K. Simmons as Santa Claus and a massive talking polar bear known as Garcia. Santa’s sleigh and two reindeer are seen at the bottom of the Christmas-themed poster which also showcases a nighttime aerial view of the North Pole.

Shortly after the poster dropped, Amazon MGM Studios released a new trailer for the film which begins with Jack being ambushed in his apartment and forcibly taken to the North Pole. Once there, Zoe explains that he has been brought in to find the kidnapped Santa Claus, whose code name is Red One. “You’re the best tracker in the world, you’re going to help us find him,” she says.

Jack is then introduced to Johnson’s Callum and is manhandled by Garcia. The rest of the three-minute clip features a montage of action scenes, including the team facing off against dangerous snowmen and other scary creatures. Toy stores are revealed to be secret and portals supply closets and things like Hot Wheels cars and robot figurines can be turned into full-sized useable items.

Red One is directed by Jake Kasdan from a script by Chris Morgan. The film is based off an original story by Hiram Garcia. Per the official synopsis, the story follows “Callum Drift, the head of North Pole security, who must team up with bounty hunter Jack O’Malley to find and rescue Santa Claus after he gets kidnapped.” Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Nick Kroll, Kristofer Hivju, and Wesley Kimmel also star.

Red One Had A Troubled Production

The movie was originally scheduled for release during the 2023 holiday season. But due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, the premiere was pushed back. The project was also plagued by alleged behind-the-scenes drama, which included scheduling disagreements and Johnson showing up late for shoots. Despite the claims, the actor was reportedly paid $50 million for his work on the film.

Meanwhile, Red One will be Evans’ first Christmas movie. Speaking to ComicBook in 2023, the actor said he’s always wanted to do a holiday film. “I’ve been in this industry for too long, but I’ve never seen a Christmas movie come across my lap,” he explained. “It’s never been on my radar. They happen. They’re occasional. But it’s never been something that’s come my way. So the fact that this one popped up, I was like ‘I can’t say no to this. I just can’t.'”

Red One hits theaters on Nov. 15.
