Sabrina Carpenter May Have Made a Subtle Nod to Barry Keoghan in Music Video
It seems like Sabrina Carpenter is reminding Barry Keoghan that heartbreak is one thing, but her ego’s another.
The “Espresso” singer surprised fans with a deluxe version of her Grammy-winning album Short n’ Sweet, which was released on Valentine’s Day (February 14). The album featured five additional songs, including a new version of her hit song “Please Please Please” with Dolly Parton.
Carpenter and Parton also filmed a music video for the song, and the former shared her appreciation for getting to sing with “one of my biggest idols” in a post to Instagram. She also shared a clip from the music video, showing the two blondes singing in a pick-up truck.
As if a Dolly-Sabrina collab wasn’t enough, fans noticed there might have been a nod to Carpenter’s ex, Barry Keoghan. The two were first linked in late 2023 and broke up in December 2024. Keoghan was famously featured in the original music video for “Please Please Please,” playing a bad boy that Carpenter keeps bailing out of jail.
In the new version of the music video, Sabrina Carpenter and Dolly Parton are shown driving in a pick-up truck, singing along to the lyrics. At one point, the two look at each other mischievously before the camera slowly pans to the bed of the truck, which shows a mystery man tied up with a bag over his head. The man is wearing a white tank top and black slacks — an identical outfit that Keoghan wore in the “Please Please Please” music video.

While Carpenter and Keoghan kept most of their relationship private, they still had very public moments together. Keoghan was present at many of Carpenter’s performances last year as she made her way through the festival circuit. Keoghan would be found in Instagram comments, thirsting over Carpenter, and the pair even posed together at the Oscars after-party and at the Met Gala.
Following their split, rumors spread that Keoghan had been unfaithful, and the actor shared a long statement in December, saying that “absolute lies, hatred,” and “disgusting commentary” had been spread around. Carpenter has not spoken about the break-up.
