Aprilia will be launching its second offering in the sub-500cc segment soon, the Tuono 457. Based on the RS457, the Tuono 457 will share a lot in common, while also being different. For those looking for a naked street fighter for daily commutes with the capability of touring, the Aprilia Tuono 457 could be a great alternative to the extremely successful KTM 390 Duke. However, here are three things to know about the Aprilia Tuono 457.

Aprilia Tuono 457: Platform and design

The Tuono 457 is based on the same platform as the Aprilia RS457 — a twin-spar aluminium frame, similar to its larger litre-class sibling, the RSV4. The motorcycle gets all the right parts to make it look like a scaled-down version of the Tuono V4 and what makes it stand out compared to its fully-faires sibling, the RS457.

The motorcycle gets a flat handlebar instead of clip-ons, giving the rider a more relaxed position on the bike, while the lack of fairing makes it look smaller than the RS457. Overall, on the design front, the new Aprilia Tuono seems to be a great competitor to the KTM 390 Duke.

Aprilia Tuono 457: Hardware and features

In terms of cycling parts, the Tuono 457 shares a lot with the RS457 again. The motorcycle gets adjustable USD forks at the front, a monoshock at the rear, runs on 17-inch wheels and gets disc brakes at both ends. Instrumentation consists of a TFT display and the motorcycle gets full LED lighting.

Similar to the RS457, the new Aprilia Tuono 457 gets a host of electronic aids such as ride modes, traction control settings and ABS modes. The TFT instrument console gets phone connectivity via Bluetooth. Speaking of our experience riding the RS457, the instrument cluster is well laid out and is easy to read although it offers a ton of information.

Aprilia Tuono 457: Engine specifications

The engine is the highlight as it makes the most power in the category. The Tuono 457 is powered by the same 457cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder engine that powers the RS457. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and the company offers a quickshifter as an optional extra.
