Mountain collapsed in five seconds on India-China border, tension again due to landslide in Chamoli, Uttarakhand; VIDEO

A landslide has occurred once again on the India-China border. In Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, a part of the mountain collapsed and fell on the highway within just five seconds. Traffic on the Niti-Malari highway, which was closed due to the collapse of the hill on Monday afternoon, has come to a complete halt. After the landslide, traffic has come to a halt for more than a dozen villages including the checkpoints on the border area.

The villagers are facing a lot of trouble due to the closure of the highway. Although the BRO and administration teams are working to clear the debris from the highway after the landslide, traffic on the highway could not be restored till late evening.

A large part of the hill broke near Raini on the Niti-Malari highway in Chamoli district. Fortunately, no vehicle or traveler was passing by when a large part of the hill broke and fell on the highway. On the other hand, a telecommunication tower has also been damaged due to the hill breaking near Raini.

Let us tell you that this is the only tower for telecommunication in Niti Valley. Due to the collapse of the hill, the route for supplying rations and other materials to the soldiers posted at the border in military cantonments Malari, Gamshali, Niti, Laphthal, Rimkhim, Topidhunga, Gyaldung has been completely closed.

Movement to these border villages stopped

Due to the closure of the Border Highway due to a landslide near Raini, the villages of Lata, Suki, Bhalagaon, Tolma, Suraithota, Phagati, Laung, Jumma, Kaga, Garpak, Dronagiri, Jelam, Bhapkund, Kosha, Malari, Gurukuti, Mehargaon, Rolibagad, Farkya, Bampa, Gamshali and Niti have lost contact and due to this a population of more than three and a half thousand has been cut off from the District Headquarters.

The hills of Niti Malari Border Highway are continuously breaking

The hills of the Niti Border Highway are continuously cracking after the onset of rains this time. On 5th September of this month also, the Border Highway was able to open on the third day due to the collapse of the hill near Lata. Apart from this, the road has been closed many times in Gurukuti, Saldhar also.

Local resident Laxman Butola says that BRO is carrying out road widening work till Niti border, due to which the hills are shaking and breaking during rain and snow. Villagers are also worried due to the frequent incidents of landslides.
