USAID’s role in Bangladesh’s political turmoil under scrutiny – TALANOA ‘O TONGA
Recent reports have surfaced alleging that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) engaged in activities aimed at destabilizing Bangladesh’s political landscape.
Documents marked “confidential and/or privileged” suggest that USAID’s initiatives may have influenced internal political dynamics.
In response to these allegations, the White House firmly denied any involvement in the recent ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said, “We have had no involvement at all. Any reports or rumors that the United States government was involved in these events is simply false.”
Following the political upheaval, an interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been established. The new administration is actively seeking international support to stabilize the nation’s economy and governance structures.
In a recent development, the United States committed an additional $202 million in aid to Bangladesh. This funding aims to bolster economic growth, ensure financial stability, and support development initiatives.
The situation in Bangladesh remains fluid, with both domestic and international stakeholders closely monitoring the unfolding events.
