A New ‘Wonder Woman’ DCU Film Is “Being Written” Acording to James Gunn
Wonder Woman, one-third of DC’s main trinity, has finally gotten an update on a new feature film from DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn. When Gunn first announced his DCU slate, many fans noticed that a solo Wonder Woman film was not mentioned alongside Superman and the planned Batman film, The Brave and the Bold. There was an HBO prequel series titled Paradise Lost that would focus on the Amazons, but that series was pitched as taking place before the birth of Wonder Woman.
While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gunn confirmed that a solo Wonder Woman film is being developed at DC Studios. The film is being actively worked on and is separate from the previously announced Paradise Lost, which is still in development, but Gunn said it was “slow moving, but moving.” Gunn did not say who is writing Wonder Woman or Paradise Lost. Regarding Wonder Woman, Gunn said:
“We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman‘s being written right now.”

The addition of Wonder Woman to James Gunn’s DCU plans is not surprising, given that she, alongside Superman and Batman, is considered one of the most popular heroes in DC Comics. The trinity, alongside Supergirl, was already touted as the pillars of the DCU moving forward by David Zaslav. It seemed like a safe assumption that news regarding a Wonder Woman movie would come soon. Elements of both Wonder Woman and Paradise Lost have already been teased in the DCU’s first proper entry, Creature Commandos.

It’s been confirmed that the DCU Wonder Woman won’t have any connection to the previous film incarnation, as Gunn and Peter Safran canceled Patty Jenkins’ planned Wonder Woman 3. This also means that star Gal Gadot is out of the franchise. Expectations will be high as the original Wonder Woman, which recently celebrated its eighth anniversary, was the first true success story of the original DCEU. At one point, Gadot’s Wonder Woman appeared to be the new center point of the franchise before the poorly received sequel, Wonder Woman 1984.
Wonder Woman, Clayface, Sgt. Rock and Teen Titans are in-development films that were not part of Gunn’s initial DCU announcement in January 2023. The slate is ever-evolving, as there is no word on whether James Mangold will start work on Swamp Thing soon, and Gunn previously admitted that The Authority has hit a snag in development. Meanwhile, there is still no word on The Brave and the Bold and what direction the DCU will take Batman. Even though it is unclear how long fans will have to wait to see Wonder Woman return to the big screen, it is reassuring that DC and Warner Bros. have not forgotten her.
