Andhra Pradesh’s higher education landscape has undergone significant transformation, said officials of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE).

In a statement, APSCHE Secretary T.V. Sri Krishna Murthy, referring to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2025 released by the Union Ministry of Education on Thursday, said the journey of the State’s higher education institutions in the rankings is a story of “renewal, resilience, and rising aspirations”.

He said engineering institutions in Andhra Pradesh have witnessed considerable progress. “Innovation is the frontier for the future, facilitated by long-term policy support and cultural change. Pharmacy emerges as a specialisation of strength, showcasing Andhra Pradesh’s strong foundation in healthcare education. Management and law remain works in progress, requiring stronger globalisation, research, and industry partnerships,” he said.

The overall rankings, he said, showed that the State is moving into the national spotlight, with private and public institutions alike demonstrating capacity for growth. With continued reforms, greater research investment, and robust industry linkages, Andhra Pradesh is poised to transform itself from a regional education hub into a national leader in higher education excellence, he said.

Mr. Murthy said though a few traditional universities stagnated, Andhra University and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada, regained visibility, showing that public universities can recover with strategic leadership. While core teaching and placements are improving, commercialisation of research is still underdeveloped, he noted, adding that while teaching resources are adequate, research output, publications, and perception among employers offer scope for improvement.

He said the overall picture suggests that Andhra Pradesh’s higher education ecosystem has moved from modest participation to national visibility, but sustaining this momentum will require deeper systemic reforms.
