Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has appeared in numerous hit films, including Guru, Run, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, the Dhoom series, Sarkar, Happy New Year, Ludo, Bob Biswas, I Want To Talk and many others. Lagaan 

Released in 2001, Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan was historical sports drama that became an international hit. It is said that the movie was initially presented to Abhishek Bachchan, who declined it. Ultimately, the part was taken by Aamir Khan, who also became the film’s producer. Featuring Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley, and Paul Blackthorne, Lagaan was more than a blockbuster hit. 

It also earned an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. As per box office report, the sports-drama earned approximately Rs 65.97 crore globally, establishing it as a major success. This consisted of Rs 55.13 crore in India and Rs 10.84 crore abroad. After accounting for inflation, the total earnings of the film are estimated to be around Rs 372 crore.

Dil Chahta Hai 

Another movie that Abhishek Bachchan turned down was the 2001 hit Dil Chahta Hai. Helmed by Farhan Akhtar and produced by Excel Entertainment, the movie featured Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshaye Khanna in prominent roles. Reports indicate that the film was originally intended for Abhishek Bachchan. 

Nonetheless, the actor withdrew for reasons that are not clear. Dil Chahta Hai marked Farhan Akhtar’s first film as a director, and it turned into a significant cultural achievement and a major success. Created with a budget of Rs 8 crore, movie earned more than Rs 39 crore at the box office. It was among the top-grossing films of Bollywood in 2001. 

Rang De Basanti 

Reports indicate that Aamir Khan’s film Rang De Basanti was yet another major hit that Abhishek turned down. Debuted in 2006, the movie was crafted and helmed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, and delves into modern perspectives on patriotism, ensuring its connection to the younger generation. Abhishek was said to be the top choice for the movie, but he declined the proposal for unspecified reasons. 

The movie ultimately reached Aamir Khan and it turned out to be one of the decade’s successful films. It was created with a budget of Rs 28 crore and after its release it generated Rs 53 crore in India alone, whereas globally total earnings reached Rs, 97 crore. It was nominated for a BAFTA in the foreign film category as well.
