Adapture Renewables is expanding its project development footprint into Colorado by acquiring a hybrid 110 MW solar and 110 MW battery energy storage project from Samsung C&T Renewables.
The Haynach Solar project is Adapture Renewables’ first project in Colorado. Project leaders expect construction on Haynach to be completed by 2029.
The solar-storage combination is designed to offer value opportunities in grid stability support, peak shaving and system efficiency.
“This acquisition is an important step for Adapture Renewables as we expand into the Colorado market,” said Christina Conrad, VP of Mergers & Acquisitions at Adapture Renewables. “The Haynach project fits seamlessly into our long-term growth strategy of entering new markets and integrating additional battery storage projects.”
Adapture has developed other solar projects elsewhere in the U.S., including the 14.6-MW Rivanna site in Virginia.
Colorado is increasingly welcoming new utility-scale solar projects as the state aims for 100% carbon-free and low-emission electricity generation by 2040. Other major solar projects in Colorado include the 300-MW Ebba in western Lincoln County, as well as the 155-MW Hesperus, the latter of which should enter construction phase by 2027.
Colorado currently ranks 14th nationwide with about 4.46 GW of installed solar, generating close to 11% of the state’s utility-scale electricity, according to statistics posted by the Solar Energy Industries Association.
