Aegean to schedule direct flights to India in March

Starting in March 2026, Aegean Airlines will schedule direct flights to Delhi and Mumbai, the first direct connection between Greece and India.

These new flights will be possible by the acquisition of two Airbus A321neo XLR (extra-long-range) that will be delivered in December 2025 and January 2026, respectively.

“Besides the increased range, up to 10.5 hours (of flight), (the A321neo XLR) offers significantly upgraded comfort and services to meet the demands of a long-haul flight,” said Aegean Group Chairman Eftichios Vassilakis. “Depending on demand, other long haul destinations that can be served by the specific aircraft type are on the table,” he added.

India is not yet a big source of visitors to Greece, but this could soon change as the Indian middle class expands rapidly. It is estimated that some 30 million Indians, out of a population of 1.46 billion, traveled to international destinations in 2024. Researchers say that, at the moment, only 3% of Indians can afford travel abroad.

Aegean has also ordered four A321neo LR aircraft, which can fly up to 8 hours, but delivery issues had initially led the company to postpone its venture into the Indian market to 2027, Vassilakis said.

With the new planning, Aegean is set to get delivery of 60 A320/321neo aircraft by 2030.
