AIIMS Raipur has completed a Swap Kidney Transplant, marking a first for both the newer AIIMS institutions and government hospitals in Chhattisgarh.

The procedure involved two end-stage renal disease patients from Bilaspur, aged 39 and 41, who had been undergoing dialysis for three years.

Swap transplants are used when patients have willing but incompatible donors. By exchanging donors between two such pairs, each patient receives a compatible kidney.

Although both patients had willing donors, blood group incompatibility prevented direct transplantation. To address this, AIIMS Raipur organised a swap transplant in which each donor provided a kidney to the other patient.
