Air India Express Managing Director Aloke Singh said that having flights to the new destinations are part of a broader strategy to open new opportunities in high-potential markets.
Meanwhile, tension gripped passengers aboard an Air India Express flight from Bengaluru to Gwalior on Saturday afternoon when an aborted landing attempt caused panic mid-air. The incident occurred around 1:30 pm, as the aircraft attempted to touch down at Gwalior Airport but was suddenly pulled back into the air by the pilot after a rough approach.
The Boeing aircraft, carrying approximately 160 passengers, experienced a severe jolt just moments before it was due to land. Passengers reported feeling a violent shake, prompting immediate concern. The pilot swiftly aborted the landing and circled the airport before successfully landing the plane around 10 minutes later.
Although the aircraft eventually touched down safely, the emotional aftermath was palpable. Several passengers expressed their anger and frustration upon disembarking, alleging negligence and inadequate communication from the airline. Once inside the terminal, a group of visibly shaken travellers confronted airport staff and criticised Air India Express for what they described as a traumatic experience.
“That moment felt exactly like a crash. We felt that it would be difficult to survive. How can anyone travel with confidence after such a big shock?” said one of the passengers, echoing the sentiments of others who later filed formal complaints.
Passengers including Pallavi, Tanish Chauhan, Shiva Singh, and Shobha Gupta submitted written grievances, demanding accountability from the airline and questioning its operational standards.
No injuries were reported, and Air India Express has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. Aviation authorities are expected to review the flight’s landing attempt as part of standard safety protocol.
