A’ja Wilson to be inducted into South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame
COLUMBIA — WNBA star A’ja Wilson is one of six former student-athletes being inducted into the University of South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame this year, the school announced Aug. 4.
The induction ceremony will be on Oct. 23. The 2025 Hall of Fame class also will be honored during the South Carolina football game against Alabama on Oct. 25, which is homecoming weekend on campus.
Wilson played for coach Dawn Staley from 2014-18 and was a member of the program’s first national championship team in 2017. She was drafted No. 1 overall to the Las Vegas Aces in the 2018 WNBA Draft, where she’s played her entire pro career.
Wilson’s jersey was hung in the rafters and officially retired on Feb. 2. At South Carolina, she was a three-time SEC Player of the Year (2016, 2017, 2018) and the program’s first four-time All-American, including three first-team selections (2016, 2017, 2018).
When the Gamecocks won the title in 2017, she was named the MVP of the 2017 Final Four. She was MVP of the SEC Tournament twice. Wilson is the school’s record holder in points (2,389), blocks (363) and blocks per game (2.6). She’s fourth all time in rebounds with 1,195.
This WNBA season, Wilson is averaging 21.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. She is a three-time league MVP and just played in her seventh WNBA All-Star game. She won back-to-back WNBA titles with the Aces in 2022 and 2023.
On June 25, she became the fastest player in league history to reach 5,000 points. It took her 238 games to break the record held by Breanna Stewart, who reached 5,000 in 242 games. In 2024, she became the first player in WNBA history to score 1,000 points in a season and set a WNBA single-season rebound record.
