Alec Raeside joins QBE’s transactional liability team as Underwriter

Global insurer QBE is bolstering its Warranty and Indemnity (W&I) offering with the appointment of Alec Raeside as Underwriter, a London based role.

Raeside, a qualified corporate solicitor, is joining QBE’s transactional liability team from international law firm White & Case LLP.

He brings to his new role over six years of dedicated mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and corporate transaction experience, having trained at: A&O Shearman LLP and qualified at Clifford Chance LLP in 2019.

QBE’s W&I division – which offers protection for unknown breaches of target and seller representations and warranties in a purchase agreement – was introduced to London at the beginning of 2023 in response to the growing demand and proven success in other regions, the firm notes.

Since then, the division has expanded to cover Europe including Italy, Germany, France, the Nordics, and Spain.

The QBE W&I product is particularly aimed at M&A in the sectors of consumer goods, energy, financial services, healthcare, infrastructure and utilities, media, real estate, retail and technology.

QBE’s global head of transactional liability, Toria Lessman stated: “We have quickly established a leading underwriting team for W&I across our European footprint utilising QBE’s strength in coverage, execution and claims experience.

“The M&A market has been growing but transactions are more complex and so predictability and security have never been more important. We are pleased to add Alec’s capabilities and expertise to the team.”
