Algarve families facing energy poverty being supported

The initiative aims to distribute 45,000 gas bottles donated by Galp, corresponding to a budget of one million euros in 2025. This is an initiative promoted by the Galp Foundation in partnership with ENTRAJUDA, an entity responsible for identifying families in situations of economic need and energy vulnerability.

In the Algarve region, since 2023, 4,753 gas cylinders have been distributed, supporting 391 charitable institutions. Institutions such as the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Vila Real de Santo António or the Parish Center of Martim Longo (Alcoutim) were some of the main beneficiaries.

The program aims to contribute to mitigating energy poverty in Portugal, which continues to be a worrying reality, affecting almost 20% of the population (approximately between 1.1 and 2.3 million people live in a situation of moderate energy poverty and between 660 and 680 thousand people live in a situation of extreme energy poverty, according to estimates from the National Long-Term Strategy to Combat Energy Poverty 2021-2050). This scenario compromises not only people’s health and well-being, but also their purchasing power and quality of life.
