Lucknow, July 28, 2025 — Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Alok Kumar II has been promoted from Principal Secretary to Additional Chief Secretary in the Government of Uttar Pradesh. In his expanded role, he will oversee the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) & Export Promotion, Infrastructure & Industrial Development, and NRI Departments. He also continues to serve as Chairman of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).
An officer of the 1993 IAS batch (Uttar Pradesh cadre), Kumar brings over three decades of experience in governance, policy design, and public administration. He has held several key positions in the state and central governments, including roles in NITI Aayog, the office of the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and departments such as Technical Education, Health, and Revenue.
Kumar is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, where he earned a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering. He later pursued a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs, focusing on health policy.
He has previously served as a faculty member at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, where he contributed to the training of India’s civil service officers. His career includes extensive work in the health sector at the district, state, and national levels.
In a message shared on social media, Kumar reflected on his journey, “Today marks a significant milestone in my career as I step into the role of Additional Chief Secretary. This accomplishment is not mine alone; it represents the collective support from my colleagues, mentors, friends, and family who have been with me through every challenge and success.”
Kumar takes charge at a time when Uttar Pradesh is placing strategic focus on expanding its MSME sector and boosting exports. The state has over 96 lakh registered MSME units and aims to triple its export volume by 2030. Since the launch of the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, exports from Uttar Pradesh have grown from ₹88,967 crore to over ₹2 lakh crore.
To promote local products and encourage international trade, the state government organizes the annual International Trade Show at the India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida. This year’s edition is scheduled for September 25–27.
The state’s leadership continues to emphasize MSMEs as a central pillar of its economic strategy, with efforts underway to expand industrial infrastructure, simplify regulatory frameworks, and integrate women and rural entrepreneurs into the business ecosystem.
