‘Amazing’ turn out for Let’s Talk About Music Family Pajama Party

MONROE COUNTY — A rescheduled pajama party turned out “amazing.”

Let’s Talk About Music Pajama Party was hosted in the River Raisin Rooms at the Monroe County Intermediate School District (MCISD), 1101 S. Raisinville Road in Monroe.

The night of fun, for children up to 8 years old, included an interactive music concert with The Music Lady Beverly Meyer and balloon animals with Balloon Meister Marc Meyer.

“We had a huge turnout even for a rescheduled event,” Bridgette Halcomb, Great Start Collaborative (GSC) director. said in an email. “The kids had such a blast and the parents got into the fun as well, dancing, singing, and clapping along.

Approximately 130 people attended the Jan. 29 event. It had been rescheduled due to weather conditions.

“The Music Lady Pajama Party was a hit!” Gabby Williams said. “My 1 and 8 year old had a blast dancing around in their pajamas. The Balloon Meister added an extra layer of fun. It was an all-around great community experience. We can’t wait for the next one.”

The Great Start collaborative, through a grant from MiLEAP provided high quality books and instrument kits for the families to use and take home as part of the Talking is Teaching initiative.

Through talking, reading and singing, MCISD promotes getting young children ready for school by building a strong foundation for their social-emotional development, health and lifelong learning.

Halcomb said information will be released soon about a Let’s Talk About Roller Skating party for families with young children, presented in a sensory friendly way.

“Child development research shows that engaging in musical activities with your child supports motor skills, cognitive and academic growth,” Halcomb said. “Most importantly, it’s a chance to bond in a fun way, supporting a healthy attachment between the caregiver and child.”
