Amazon Music adds new AI features to generate personalized playlists each week in a bid to compete with Spotify’s AI DJ.
Amazon Music is launching a new “Weekly Vibe” feature, designed to personalize the listening experience with AI. The feature, hot on the heels of Spotify’s AI DJ, is rolling out today for U.S. customers across all subscription tiers.
Weekly Vibe is designed to keep listeners’ playlists fresh each week. Every Monday, Weekly Vibe uses AI to create personalized playlists reflecting your recent listening habits. These also take into account your ever-evolving “musical moods” and interests.
“The feature represents another way we’re harnessing AI to help fans connect with more music that resonates with them—creating personalized playlists celebrating their favorite artists while introducing new music that matches their unique tastes,” said Amazon Music GM Ryan Redington.
To get started with your Weekly Vibe playlist, go to “Library” at the bottom of the Amazon Music screen and select “Made for You.” You will be taken to the playlist of the week, featuring a new title, description, and curated songs. Each playlist is designed to focus on a specific genre or theme, like pop hits or hip-hop favorites. Users can also share their playlists with friends, post them on social media, and save them to their personal library for future listening.
The feature builds upon Amazon Music’s “Maestro” playlist generator, which released in beta last year. Maestro enables you to enter prompts, such as your current mood, or even random emojis, and the AI will create personalized playlists matching that prompt.
Amazon Music has been focusing a lot of energy on new AI features to compete more effectively with Spotify, including AI-generated playlists and AI-assisted search. The most recent AI feature on the platform is “Explore,” enabling users to take a deeper dive into their favorite artists by showcasing their best hits and suggesting other artists based on that.
