Amid security alert, Delhi govt seals Secretariat: ’No files to be taken without permission’

The Delhi Government’s General Administration Department (GAD) on Saturday issued a notice on forbidding the transfer of files and computer hardware from the Delhi Secretariat without permission amid security concerns. The move to seal the Secretariat has been taken to ensure security and protect records.

The notice states, “To address security concerns and the safety of records, it is requested that no files/documents, Computer Hardware etc. may be taken outside Delhi Secretariat complex without permission from GAD.”

Amid concerns over the security situation and safety of records, the Delhi Secretariat has been closed temporarily. This comes at a time, process of counting of votes for the 70-member Delhi assembly election 2025 is on.

The Election Commission of India’s latest trends indicate a BJP victory with the party leading in 48 seats. The results mark a comeback of the saffron party in the national capital after 27 years. The BJP has not been in power since 1998.

The GAD notice dated February 8 adds, “It is therefore directed that necessary directions may be issued to the concerned Branch In-charges under the Departments/Offices situated in Delhi Secretariat to ensure safety of records, files, documents, electronic files etc. under their section/branches.”

As per the order issued by Pradeep Tayal, the Joint Secretary of GAD, the compliance of these regulations is mandatory for Secretariat Offices and Camp Offices of Council of Ministers and in-charges of both the offices.

Election Result of Key Constituencies 

AAP heavyweights like former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia lost from their respective seats in the 2025 assembly polls. CM Atishi is poised to win from the Kalkaji constituency, as per official data from the EC.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the BJP Headquarters in the national capital after 6.30 pm today to congratulate the party leaders and workers on achieving the party’s victory.

The fall of AAP

Most exit polls have predicted a BJP sweep. The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party won the last two elections with a handsome mandate. In 2015, the party won 67 seats in the 70-member assembly. The party won again in 2020, bagging 62 seats. The BJP has not been in power since 1998. Delhi recorded 60.42 per cent polling in this election.
