Yunus Parvez, the veteran actor fondly remembered as ‘Rahim Chacha’ from Deewar (1975), was not just a brilliant actor, but also a highly-educated and talented performer right from an early age. Born around 1931-1932, Yunus was an excellent student who completed his education at Allahabad University. During his college days, he was taught by Amitabh Bachchan’s father, the legendary poet and writer, Dr. Harviansh Rai Bachchan.

Even as a student, Yunus actively participated in college plays, where his powerful performances and dramatic flair earned him multiple accolades. His performance often stole limelight in the cultural scene of the university.

Over the years, Yunus Parvez acted in over 200 films, leaving an indelible mark with every character he portrayed. Interestingly, the veteran actor shared screen not only with Amitabh Bachchan but also with his son, Abhishek Bachchan in Bunty Aur Babli, where he played the role of a hotelier.

Yunus Parvez made his film debut in 1963 with Kan Kan Mein Bhagwan. Later, he starred in several rememberable projects including Bharat Milap, Saheli, Alibaba and Forty Thieves, Pinjre Ke Panchhi, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Pyar Ki Kahani, Zanjeer, Hera Pheri, Yaaron Ka Yaar, Trishul, Deewar Ahsaas, Do Aur Do Paanch, Dostana, Insaaf Ka Tarazu, Lawaris, Laila, Mr. India, and Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya.

Despite appearing in 200 films, the actor largely remained as a side hero. Yunus Parvez also tried his luck in politics and contested the 1998 elections from Samajwadi Party, but couldn’t win. In 2007, the actor passed away at the age of 75 due to acute diabetes.
