Music in the Park will be returning to Lacombe on June 4.

Music in the Park, which is run by the Lacombe Performing Arts Centre (LPAC), provides a great opportunity for people to enjoy the talents of local and regional musicians.

Since the first Music in the Park in July of 2014, LPAC has been proud to present the event for the community, Executive Director of the Lacombe Performing Arts Centre Rosanna Kerekes said.

“The goal of Music in the Park is to bring the community together and provide an accessible live music experience. We accept donations at the performances to help cover the costs of the bands, but it is not required to attend. LPAC pays each band a guaranteed wage because we believe every artist should be paid their due, and we don’t want them relying on donations.”

Concerts will run from June to the beginning of September, starting at 6:30 p.m. on the Echo Stage, located on the south side of the Lacombe Memorial Centre.

“In addition to the performances, this year we are thrilled to highlight some local community members with our first Lacombe Ford Community Showcase. These are brief pre-shows to the Music in the Park performance, beginning at 6 p.m.,” Kerekes said.

“This season we are featuring Grade 3 JS McCormick Choir, Lacombe Community Youth Choir, The Hydes Duo, and past #FordTheArts Scholarship Recipients, Peyton Nowochin and Melena Bowman.”

Individuals planning on attending should bring their lawn chairs or picnic blankets.

Music in the Park goes on rain or shine, however, in the case of inclement weather, performances are moved indoors to the St. Andrews United Church.

Concerts taking place include:

– June 4: Dean Ray, a powerhouse singer-songwriter with a diverse musical repertoire spanning rock, country rock, blues, and folk, will be performing.

– June 11: Flat Iron Jazz, a group founded in 2005 that plays swing music from the big band era, Latin, blues, jazz versions of pop music, and more, will be performing.

– June 18: Ostella, an alt-rock Irish fusion has been captivating audiences everywhere and will be performing.

– June 25: Strings Galore featuring Laurie Maetche will be a classical music and folk/fiddle music performance.

More information on all of the upcoming performances can be found on the LPAC website, lacombeperformingartscentre.com/musicinthepark.
