António Guterres praised the role of the President of Turkmenistan in holding the UN forum
UN Secretary-General António Guterres sent a letter to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, expressing gratitude for his leadership in holding the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in Avaza from August 5 to 8, 2025, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
In particular, the UN Secretary-General noted that Turkmenistan’s long-standing commitment to peace and multilateral dialogue created a suitable basis for holding the Conference.
“I commend your role in bringing together participants from all over the world, including heads of state and government, civil society, youth and the media, around a common agenda. This event played an important role in aligning national actions, regional cooperation and global policy frameworks to enable landlocked developing countries to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth while strengthening their resilience to future shocks,” stressed A. Guterres.
The adoption of the Avaza Political Declaration and the Avaza Action Programme represents an ambitious plan of action for the next decade, closely linked to the Pact for the Future and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These commitments will accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, with a focus on trade facilitation, structural transformation, transport connectivity, technology, climate resilience and mobilizing international support.
“I would also like to express my deep gratitude to you and the people of Turkmenistan for the warm welcome extended to me and my delegation. I look forward to working closely with you to ensure the full and effective implementation of the Avaza Action Programme,” concluded the UN Secretary-General, assuring the President of Turkmenistan of his highest consideration, deep appreciation and gratitude.
