Apple allows for its Apple Music radio stations to be accessed via the TuneIn app

Users will now be able to access Apple’s six radio stations outside the Apple Music app on TuneIn.

Per the Wall Street Journal, beginning Wednesday, Apple Music‌ 1, ‌Apple Music‌ Hits, ‌Apple Music‌ Country, Apple Música Uno, ‌Apple Music‌ Club, and ‌Apple Music‌ Chill will be available to TuneIn’s 75 million monthly active users. The stations will feature no commercials, and include a link inside the TuneIn app and on its website that directs users to ‌Apple Music‌.

The TuneIn app is a cross-platform internet-based radio service that allows users to stream live radio stations, music channels, news, sports, and podcasts from around the world through a single app or its website. Apple reportedly approached TuneIn about the partnership toward the end of last year.

The partnership appears to be part of an effort to combat Spotify, with Apple hoping to pick up paid Apple Music subscriptions. At this point, the Apple Music service has no ad-supported tier, and only has a few methods to attract new subscribers beyond free trial periods.

Apple Music‌’s share of digital music subscribers in the United States reportedly fell from 30 percent in 2020 to 25 percent at the end of 2024. Meanwhile, Spotify’s share increased from 31 percent to 37 percent over the same period. ‌Apple Music‌’s global market share has fallen from 16 percent to 12 percent.

Back in 2019, TuneIn announced a collaboration with Apple to bring TuneIn’s more than 100,000 global radio stations to ‌Apple Music‌.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
