This iconic action movie from The Terminator’s Arnold Schwarzenegger, and currently being remade with Glen Powell, gets a new streaming home.
Maggie was met with mixed reviews and currently sits at 60% on Rotten Tomatoes. Maggie had a budget of $1.4 million and only managed to gross $1.6 million at the box office. However, critics praised the film’s unique take on a zombie movie and Schwarzenegger’s performance. Critics were pleasantly surprised by the action stars’ ability to perform in a dramatic role. Additionally, the film also featured performances from Joely Richardson, Douglas M. Griffin, J. D. Evermore, Jodie Moore, and Rachel Whitman, among others.
Other Times Schwarzenegger Wasn’t an Action Man
Maggie saw Schwarzenegger in a somewhat unexpected dramatic role, given the actor’s reputation as The Terminator himself. However, Schwarzenegger has taken on roles outside the action genre before. In fact, the 1996 family comedy Jingle All the Way marked the end of an eight-year-long streak of Schwarzenegger taking on comedic roles. The ridiculous 90s movie has since become a Christmas classic despite poor reviews.
Other comedies featuring Schwarzenegger include Twins, Junior, Kindergarten Cop, and Last Action Hero. While these films were not particularly well-received, many of them have become cult classics and mark a point in Schwarzenegger’s acting career where he began to branch out into other genres.
Maggie is streaming on Max.
