The night matches just hit different in New York City. Arguably the most famous under-the-lights offering in the tennis in the world—Alex de Minaur and Novak Djokovic both tell me that’s true—leads to a vibe all its own at the U.S. Open. This year Asics is ready for it.

And by ready, that means an all-black head-to-toe kit the brand has dubbed the “Night Energy Collection.”

“Sometimes these dark colors you can’t really wear during the day, it gets hot and it’s not ideal,” de Minaur tells me. “The dark colors you can wear at night are pretty epic. This is exactly that, a pretty epic outfit I am pretty excited to be wearing.”

Djokovic tells me he loves the all-black look, and Taylor Fritz tells me he prefers the night-match looks so much he’d wear them during the day. “When there are two different looks, I want to wear the night look all the time,” Fritz says.

Belinda Bencic and Jasmine Paolini both agree with the men, telling me they’d love to have a night match—Paolini’s hoping for one on Arthur Ashe Stadium after last year playing on Louis Armstrong Stadium—just so they can wear the gear.

“I hope for a night match just so I can wear this one because I really love it,” Bencic says, “so hopefully we get all night matches.” Paolini agrees. “Me also,” she says. “I like this outfit, so hopefully night matches for us.”

“The Nigh Energy Collection represents our first-ever tennis apparel and footwear capsule designed especially for the New York night sessions, featuring a striking black colorway with details that shine under the spotlight,” says Martina Jurcova, head of global tennis apparel and accessories at Asics.

While Djokovic and Fritz will wear just Asics footwear, Lorenzo Musetti, de Minaur, Paolini, Bencic, Nishesh Basavareddy, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Caroline Dolehide and Eva Lys will all pull on the all-black if they play under the lights.

De Minaur, who has been with the brand for a decade, says Asics has really stepped up its game the last few years on the apparel side. “As a player when you go out there on the court every week, it is something special when you have a kit you feel good in,” he says. “It is almost like you won the first battle when you look better than your opponent.”

Musetti, who signed with Asics at the beginning of 2025, says the transition into the brand has been an “impressive start.” He’s a fan of the Asics shoes (he wears the Gel-Resolution line), which he calls the toughest piece to switch when it comes to footwear and apparel. He’s also has enjoyed the early days of the apparel. “I personally really like the fashion world and the colors,” he says. “I try to be stylish, and I think we had some really pretty good collections.” Musetti noted the A.P.C. collaboration specifically before saying he’s certainly a fan of the all-black of the Night Energy Collection.

The collection features the Gel-Resolution X and the Solution Speed FF 3, both in black and prism blue and the Court FF 3 Novak in black and prism gold. The women will wear a Match Capsule Dress and Game Compression Bra with the options for a visor and wristband, while the men have a short-sleeve top and seven-inch short with a cap and wristband.

The Asics athletes agree, all in favor of the all-black (Djokovic says his kit with his black Court FF 3 Novak shoes “feels good.”) Asics is ready for New York to turn on the lights.
