Ausfilm to lead Australian delegation at Annecy International Animation Film Market

Dave Enterprises, Flying Bark, Ludo, and Princess Pictures/Princess Bento are among a delegation of more than 40 animation companies that will travel to this month’s Annecy International Animation Film Market (Mifa) as part of an Australian delegation.

Spearheaded by Ausfilm, in partnership with VicScreen, Screen NSW, Screen Queensland, Screen Tasmania, Screen Territory, and Screenwest, the coordinated presence is designed to showcase the country’s animation talent and foster international collaboration.

The delegation, which will be branded Animation Australia, will include a nationally branded exhibition stand (B.05 Hall B), an industry panel exploring the creative energy behind the ‘Aussie-mation’ boom, and an Animation Australia Happy Hour networking function to connect with other Mifa delegates.

Ausfilm CEO Kate Marks said the initiative would highlight the “incredible creative talent and production capabilities Australia has to offer” and offer an opportunity to promote the country’s 30 per cent Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) Offset.

“Australian animation is having a moment on the world stage, with Bluey the number one US-streamed show in 2024 and a feature film on the way, and Adam Elliot’s Memoir of a Snail winning Annecy’s top prize for Best Feature last year and nominated for an Oscar,” she said.

This year’s event already features a strong Australian presence, with feature film Lesbian Space Princess (We Made A Thing Studios) and an episode of Shaun Tan’s anticipated anthology Tales from Outer Suburbia (Highly Spirited, Flying Bark) selected for the Contrechamp Feature Competition and TV Film line-ups, respectively. Sean Zwan’s Mr Legs, produced by Studio Showoff, has also been selected for the Midnight Specials program.

MIFA will be held in Annecy, France, from June 10 – 13, within the Annecy Animation Festival, which runs from June 8 – 14 June 2025. Find out more about the delegation here.
