AWS+’s license suspended for unapproved films, announces closure of AWS+ app

AWS+, which was suspended for broadcasting movies that were not submitted to the screening committee, announced on August 7 that it would be shutting down its AWS+ application.

The statement said that the AWS+ application’s license has been suspended and that the AWS+ application will be shut down in accordance with the instructions.

One account commented on the statement, saying, “Even though I still have many months subscription in my account, the fees is cheap. Thank you for always uploading good movies. I’m sorry for AWS+ to be suspended.”

Another account also raised a question, “Will you refund my money? For the period of suspension?”

The Ministry of Information announced that AWS+ and cmapp.tv (Channel Myanmar App) have had their business registration certificates permanently revoked for broadcasting movies that were not submitted to the screening committee on their applications.

The Ministry of Information, in accordance with the order issued by the Union Government pursuant to Section 4, Sub-section (c) of the Essential Supplies and Services Law, issued Order No. (32/2024) dated on March 13, 2024, and is conducting the issuance of registration certificates and verification of licenses for operating a film broadcasting business using a communication network.

According to the order, those who have obtained a registration certificate for operating a film broadcasting business using a communication network must first submit the content they intend to publish to the screening committee. However, the statement states that AWS+ and cmapp.tv, which have obtained a registration certificate for operating a film broadcasting business using a communication network, have published films on their applications that have not been submitted to the screening committee.

Therefore, AWS+ and cmapp.tv have been permanently revoked their business licenses for not complying with the regulations and are taking action in accordance with existing laws.

Therefore, the Ministry of Information has announced that those who have obtained a license to broadcast movies using telecommunications networks can submit their content to the screening committee, and those who do not have a license to broadcast movies using telecommunications networks must also apply for a license to broadcast movies using telecommunications networks.
