Bands, musicians and visual artists sought for this year’s Victoria Classic Boat Festival

This year, the Maritime Museum of BC (MMBC) is putting on its 46th annual Victoria Classic Boat Festival over the Labour Day long weekend.

For this beloved event in Victoria’s Inner Harbour, the MMBC is seeking visual artists, bands and solo musicians to help them celebrate the occasion properly.

For visual artists, a $300 honorarium is available for those selected to take part in the ‘artists aboard’ program, which will see the artists positioned on board some of the boats to paint, sketch or create unique pieces for the festival.

This opportunity will be open to artists of all ages and once the festival is over, the art created will be displayed in a special showcase at the MMBC in October.

In addition to the visual artists taking part in the Victoria Classic Boat Festival, bands and solo musicians are also invited to apply to play music throughout the festival on board several vessels and on the docks of the Inner Harbour.

“Festival attendees love to hear maritime music on the docks,” said Anya Zanko, Events and Development Manager of the MMBC.

“We are so excited to expand our music offerings throughout Labour Day weekend with Music Program performers.”

Similar to the visual artists, a $300 honorarium will be offered to each group.

The MMBC says that all types and styles of music are welcome, but the festival prefers to look for acts with maritime connections.

“Performers should have a stated interest or connection to heritage boats and/or maritime culture,” said the MMBC.

The festival’s music program is open to performers of all ages and acts are expected to have a one hour set prepared, should they be selected to play.

Applications to both the artists aboard and the music programs are now open and can be found online, via the MMBC’s website.

All applications must be in by Friday, March 14th.
