Bangkok Post – Thai Film Archive stages immersive animation festival
Animation lovers will get an immersive experience with animated films from over 20 countries in the first part of “Siam International Animation Festival (SiamAnima)”, which will take place mainly at Thai Film Archive, Phutthamonthon Sai 5 Road, from Wednesday to Sunday.
Presented by Klower°, Graphy Animation and many dedicated organising teams, this festival is Thailand’s platform open to short animations from Southeast Asia and beyond, which exemplify excellence in content, technique and perspective.
More than a showcase, the event aims to build a community-led movement to connect Southeast Asian creators with global animation scenes. Creators, audiences and supporters are invited to come together to exchange experiences and celebrate the power of animation as an art form rooted in social and cultural life.
The opening day will feature highlight films from SiamAnima 2025 programme, a reception party in the evening and an award ceremony honouring independent artists who inspire the animation world.
Main activities throughout the five days include intense competition screenings featuring a rich selection of short animated films from around the world; special curated programmes from international filmmakers; a series of boundary-pushing workshops to explore new forms of storytelling, sound, movement and material in unexpected ways; and an exhibition to dig deep into the roots and essence of animation.
Also, discover and support local creators at the art market on Saturday and Sunday. Available for purchase will be magazines, flipbooks, postcards, stickers, T-shirts and unique goodies crafted with love by independent artists. There will also be a family-friendly corner with beautifully illustrated children’s books and live storytelling sessions.
The festival will expand with even more inspiration to share in the second part from Sept 15-21. There will be exclusive masterclasses by acclaimed international artists, while feature films and short programmes will be screened in multiple cities including Bangkok, Ang Thong and Chiang Mai.
