Walnut Grove Farm is celebrating 38 years as a stop on the Knox County Scenic Drive.
The farm’s annual Barn Fest will feature handmade art, live music, homemade food, homegrown produce and family activities, according to a community announcement.
The event will take place over two weekends, Oct. 4-5 and Oct. 11-12, at the farm located half a mile north of Knoxville.
Kids Rock the Arts contest
A highlight of the festival is the Kids Rock the Arts contest, sponsored by Blick Art Materials and the Galesburg Community Art Center. The contest will showcase local youth talent on all four days of the festival.
Additional activities for children include the MINI Cow Corral, a mini agricultural fair presented by the Knoxville FFA on Oct. 11, and parent-guided farm games on other days. There will also be a “Magic Movement for Kids” session with Kathleen Ridlon on Oct. 11-12, allowing parents to shop while their children participate, according to the announcement.
Live music and food trucks
Live music will be featured each day, with performances scheduled for two hours each. David Berchtold will perform at 1 p.m. Oct. 4, John Heasly at 1 p.m. Oct. 5 and Oct. 11, Cluck Ole Hen String Band at 3 p.m. Oct. 5 and Taproot Wranglers at 1 p.m. Oct. 12.
Food options will include a tacos and Thai food truck with chef Laura Lytle, as well as Rise and Grind coffee and energy drinks.
The Knox County Scenic Drive is a self-guided fall foliage tour that has become a family tradition for thousands. The event at Walnut Grove Farm has evolved into a juried artisan shopping showcase, featuring a variety of unique gifts and crafts.
“We have new artisans, foods and great music showcased in a Civil War Era Barn with a 38-year history of superb quality,” Rich Wood, show coordinator, said in the announcement.
