Footwear major Bata India has ramped up manufacturing at its Bata Nagar facility in Kolkata by installing the state-of-the-art DESMA-PUDIP (Polyurethane Direct Injection Process) system to improve production speed, consistency, and product quality.

Developed by global footwear tech leader DESMA, the new setup brings robotic automation to the factory floor, including direct soling, spray and roughening arms and automated mould handling, marking a major upgrade in precision and efficiency.

The commercialisation of the DESMA-PUDIP machine marks a bold stride in the journey to modernise and scale manufacturing capabilities, said Bata India’s CEO and Managing Director Gunjan Shah in a statement, adding that it reaffirms the commitment to ‘Make in India’, to innovation and to create long-term value for customers and association with the state of West Bengal.

The launch event saw participation from West Bengal Labour Minister Maloy Ghatak, Labour Secretary Avanindra Singh, BIS officials and Bata leadership.

The company claims that the Bata Nagar facility was the first among the Indian shoe industry to receive the ISO: 9001 certification.
